Wolves in the Throne Room is proud to announce that they will be releasing the sorrowful and grand self-titled debut album by synth-driven funeral doom band VOUNA on their own Artemisia Records on November 9th. All music was composed and all instruments performed by front-person Yianna Bekris (previously of Vradiazei, Eigenlicht, and Sadhaka), fellow native to the Pacific Northwest.
VOUNA’s debut evokes the devastating and beautiful journey of becoming the last person on Earth. Razor sharp tremolo picked guitars cut through the heart like a knife. Mournfully sung vocals and cinematic melodies are combined with crushing doom drumming, while layers of primitive 90s digital synths conjure a lush and rugged soundscape. The music is inspired and influenced by Finnish funeral doom, English masters My Dying Bride, Eastern European black metal, and Greek folk music. Vouna was recorded entirely at the WITTR studio, Owl Lodge, which is located at the edge of an ancient forest in Olympia, WA.
Since the release of her previous album ‘Five Incantations’ in 2016, internationally acclaimed composer and virtuoso cellist Jo Quail has been touring extensively across Europe performing alongside the likes of Boris, Amenra, Caspian, Myrkur and Winterfylleth. Festival performances this year include ArcTanGent, WGT, Dunk! and Tramlines Festival, and two separate concerts at the invitation of Robert Smith for his curation of the Southbank’s Meltdown Festival.
Jo’s new album ‘Exsolve’, recorded with Chris Fielding at Skyhammer Studios (Electric Wizard, Primordial, Witchsorrow, Conan), will be released on 2nd November.

Following the biggest year to date, Desertfest London returns for its eighth year. As the 2018 line-up encompassed some of the most legendary and diverse acts the festival has ever seen, with Napalm Death, Hawkwind and Monster Magnet, to name just a few – the bar has been raised and the stakes are even higher for the UK’s best stoner rock & doom festival to pull out all the stops once again.
So with that, Desertfest are set to reveal the first seven acts who will be making up the 2019 edition of the festival, which will be taking over the streets of Camden Town in a smoke-filled haze throughout the May bank holiday weekend (3-5th May)
So without further ado, here are the first seven acts for next years line up – ALL THEM WITCHES | KADAVAR | WITCH | EARTHLESS | COLOUR HAZE | WE HUNT BUFFALO | DVNE
